Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari met with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his office in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
During the visit, Ambassador Bhandari congratulated Yunus on his recent appointment and presented him with a letter of felicitations from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
In his remarks, Bhandari highlighted Nepal’s continued support and solidarity with Bangladesh during its transitional period, referencing both the prime minister’s letter and a government press statement from August 7.
In a statement, the Nepali embassy in Dhaka said that Yunus expressed his appreciation for Nepal’s support, noting the enduring close and cordial relations between the two countries at political and people-to-people levels.
The meeting also further addressed ways to strengthen Nepal-Bangladesh relations, focusing on economic linkages. Bhandari emphasised the potential for increased trade, transit, and connectivity and highlighted energy cooperation as a mutually beneficial opportunity.
Bhandari proposed an early commencement of exporting 40 MW of hydroelectricity from Nepal to Bangladesh via Indian transmission lines, which he described as a transformative step for sub-regional energy cooperation.
He also expressed satisfaction with the growing people-to-people contacts, educational exchanges, and tourism between the two nations.
Yunus underscored the importance of harnessing hydropower to achieve net zero emissions and called for prompt action to realise this collaboration.
