The Nepal Army recently concluded ‘Safa Himal Abhiyan 2024’, conducted from April 11 to June 5.
Unilever Nepal Limited supported the mountain cleanup campaign by helping Avani Ventures, the official waste management and recycling partner, to recycle the collected waste.
During the campaign this year, the army collected more than 11,000 kg of waste and retrieved five bodies from the Everest region.
Since the campaign’s launch in 2019, the army has removed a total of 108 tonnes of waste and retrieved 12 bodies from the region.
Unilever has actively lent its support to the annual programme since 2021.
“The company is honoured to join hands in the sustainability efforts and to have the opportunity to serve Nepal by being part of initiatives for environmental sustainability,” Unilever Nepal said in a note issued on Friday.
The company has pledged to give continuity to the support for the clean-up campaign.
Stakeholders and supporters have praised such programmes, aimed at minimising climate change and protecting the natural beauty of the mountains.
Unilever Nepal said it believes that sustainability and change must be supported and practised to improve the environment.
