Colin Philip Smith, popularly known as Putali Baje, died in Pokhara on Saturday.
He died while undergoing treatment at Hariyokharka Hospital, Pokhara. He was 87. Smith was a British national born in 1936.
He came to Nepal some 50 years ago as a teacher under the United Mission and worked in Gorkha, Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Smith conducted extensive research on butterflies found in Nepal. In 2019, he was conferred honorary citizenship of Nepal for his contribution to the field of education and scientific research.
