Nepal and Portugal on Thursday discussed expanding cooperation in trade, labour, investment and digitisation during high-level meetings held in Kathmandu.
Portuguese Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Isabel Xavier, who is on a three-day visit to Nepal, held talks with Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and separately called on Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal.
During the meetings, the two sides reviewed various aspects of Nepal–Portugal relations and expressed satisfaction over growing engagement, particularly after the first meeting of the Nepal–Portugal Bilateral Consultation Mechanism held in Lisbon in February, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
They reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and agreed to enhance cooperation in tourism, investment, trade, labour, and digitisation, while also exploring new areas of collaboration.
Minister Khanal also welcomed Portugal’s plan to open a diplomatic mission in Kathmandu and thanked the Portuguese government for its consideration in resolving consular cases involving Nepali nationals.
Xavier congratulated Khanal on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure. She is scheduled to depart Kathmandu on May 1.
