Police on Friday arrested one more suspect in connection with the recent gold smuggling case.
Rohan Adukia, son of businessman Rakesh Kumar Adukia, a prime suspect in the case, was taken into police custody by the immigration department at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
The arrestee, who entered Nepal on an IndiGo flight using an Indian passport, was handed to the Department of Revenue Investigation for further investigation.
The DRI had previously conducted a raid at Rakesh’s house as a part of efforts to find actual owners of the seized gold. He has been on the run since the incident came to light.
Earlier in the day, two Chinese nationals, attempting to flee Nepal, were also arrested from the Kathmandu-based international airport in connection with the case.
So far, 21 people, including five foreign nationals—three Chinese, a Belgian, and an Indian—have been taken into police custody for their alleged involvement in the crime.
