Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Saturday said it was inappropriate to raise questions in the Parliament by accusing the leader of the main opposition party of being involved in corruption in Pashupatinath temple.
Addressing a meeting of the House of Representatives, the prime minister said the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority is conducting an investigation into the case, adding the anti-graft body will conduct an independent and impartial investigation.
“It is improper to make a remark by dragging a leader of the main opposition in the issue. There is also a provision to expunge such remarks from the Parliament’s record,” Dahal said.
Lawmakers from the main opposition obstructed the Parliament proceedings on Friday after a Maoist lawmaker, while airing his views on the policies and programmes of the government, claimed that the then KP Sharma Oli government was mired in various corruption cases.
Counting the number of corruption cases reported during Oli’s administration, he claimed that brass was used for jalahari at the Pashupatinath temple instead of gold.
The UML leaders objected to the statement and obstructed the house proceedings, daring the Maoists to prove the statement.
The main opposition agreed to lift the obstruction after Prime Minister Dahal assured UML leaders that he would address their concerns regarding the allegations and make sure that the remarks made by Maoist Centre lawmaker Lekh Nath Dahal are expunged from the parliament’s record.
