Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Tuesday said the government will not spare anyone involved in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.
Responding to lawmakers during a question-answer session of the Parliament, the prime minister expressed his determination to take action against all those involved in the case.
“I would like to make it clear that investigation and action also in other corruption cases will be accomplished as per the law,” said Dahal replying to a question by CPN (Unified Socialist) lawmaker Sher Bahadur Kunwar.
“Anyone involved in the case will be brought to book regardless of their positions. Even VIPs have been accused in the case. It also proves that the probe is going on in an independent and impartial way.”
Prime Minister Dahal said police are conducting a fair and professional investigation into the case, adding the government will not intervene into the investigation process.
“This government will not leave any stone unturned to bring the accused officials and other individuals to book after conducting a fair investigation of the crime,” he said.
On a separate note, the prime minister refuted claims of corruption in the Maoist cantonments, adding he is ready to face legal action if found guilty.
“The issue of corruption in cantonment is baseless. I am ready to go to jail if proven guilty through an investigation,” Dahal said while answering a question about the alleged corruption asked by Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Gyan Bahadur Shahi.
The case dates back to 2007 when the then government had decided to provide Rs5,000 a month to as many as 19,602 former Maoist combatants camped in seven cantonments and 21 satellite camps set up across the country. The provision was to be continued until the time the combatants were either integrated into security agencies or chose volunteer retirement.
