Rastriya Swatantra Party vice chair Dol Prasad Aryal on Saturday resigned as parliamentary party leader, a day after the party’s chair Rabi Lamichhane took an oath of office and secrecy after he was re-elected to the House.
Aryal submitted his resignation to deputy parliamentary party leader Biraj Bhakta Shrestha.
“I have resigned as parliamentary party leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party effective from today,” Aryal said in the resignation letter.
“I will always be grateful for the support and assistance of my colleagues during my tenure.”
A central committee meeting of the party on January 27 had picked Aryal as parliamentary party leader after the Supreme Court annulled the lawmaker status of Rabi Lamichhane.
The resignation comes on the heels of Lamichhane’s entry to the House of Representatives from Chitwan-2 through the recently-concluded by-election.
