Nepal and South Korea have agreed to work together to promote Korean tourists to Nepal.

During the sixth meeting of the bilateral consultation mechanism held in Seoul on Friday, officials decided to explore the possibility to sign a memorandum of understating on tourism cooperation.

Nepali Embassy in Seoul in a statement said the Nepali side requested allowing the Nepali airlines to operate direct flights to the Korean capital city.

The two delegations took stock of the overall state of bilateral relations between Nepal and South Korea and exchanged views on promoting cooperation in different areas including trade, investment, employment, energy, technology transfer, education, tourism, culture and people-to-people relations, according to the embassy.

The officials also discussed and agreed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations by organising various events including the exchange of high-level visits in 2024.

The Korean side has agreed to encourage its business community to seize the opportunity to invest in Nepal in different sectors including hydropower, reads the statement.

Nepal also requested the Korean government to increase the number of quotas to Nepal and ensure the welfare of Nepali workers.

Lok Bahadur Thapa, joint secretary at north East Asia division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Seo Min Jeong, director general at Asian and pacific affairs bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea, led their respective delegations to the meeting.
