Congress to support Janata Samajbadi Party candidate in Bara-2

The Nepali Congress has decided to support Janata Samajbadi Party in Bara-2 in the April 23 by-elections.
A central work execution committee meeting on Sunday endorsed a proposal by the party’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba to support Janata Samajbadi Party’s candidate, according to Jeevan Pariyar, a joint general secretary of Congress.
Congress and Janata Samajbadi Party are partners in the ruling coalition.
The Samajbadi Party is preparing to field its Chairman Upendra Yadav in the constituency.
Yadav, who was defeated in the elections held in November last year from Saptari-2 with a huge margin to the Janamat Party chair CK Raut, appears prepared to go to any length to make his comeback to the House of Representatives.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party has picked former senior police officer Ramesh Kharel to contest from the constituency while the UML is yet to finalise its candidate.
The seat in Bara became vacant after Ramsahay Prasad Yadav got elected Vice President. Ramsahay Prasad was elected from the constituency as a candidate of the Janata Samajbadi Party.
Meanwhile, the Congress also decided to lift the suspension of leaders including former minister Govinda Raj Joshi and Bikash Koirala among others.
