Government directs agencies to guard financial institutions
The home ministry issued a circular instructing any untoward events to be halted, following incidents of those involved in banking crimes threatening the financial institutions instead of paying the money they owed came to light.Post Report
The government on Friday issued a circular to the security agencies to make special arrangements to provide security for banks, microfinance and cooperatives across the country, following troubles hundreds of microfinance borrowers were facing due to exuberant interest rates.
The home ministry issued a circular to all District Administration Offices and the Nepal Police Headquarters to stop any untoward events after it came to light that those involved in banking crimes, fraud, and bad loans have threatened the financial institutions instead of paying the loans they had taken.
A few weeks ago, Jhapa-based businessman Durga Prasai instigated the debtors by launching a campaign of attacking the employees of banks and financial institutions.
After his controversial and objectionable statements, the police have also started monitoring people and groups who may take the law into their own hands.
