Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday invited the women protestors from Banke, who have been protesting at Maitighar in Kathmandu for the past 46 days, for talks.
The protesters have been demanding action against the culprits in the disappearance, abduction and murder of Nirmala Kurmi of Nepalgunj.
Women’s rights activist Ruby Khan, who is leading the protest, said that Dahal called for talks on Monday morning.
“We have been fighting for justice for the last 46 days. The Prime Minister has finally come to know about us which has allowed an environment for a meet,” said Khan.
Khan informed that although a meeting was scheduled for Sunday, the said meeting could not take place as officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs are yet to brief the Prime Minister.
The meeting has been rescheduled for Monday.
Earlier, the erstwhile Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane had visited the protesting women at Maitighar and asked them to suspend the protest and return to their homes stating that the case was being investigated.
This is the third sit-in protest by the women in the last two years seeking justice for Kurmi.
The women began the protest after the District Police Office, Banke refused to investigate the case even after a witness complaint was filed stating that the Kurmi was killed by the accused in the case in order to possess a piece of land that was under the victim’s ownership.
