Weightlifter Sanju Chaudhary, who had come to Kathmandu for the preliminary selection of the 19th Asian Games, was found dead on Tuesday morning.
Chaudhary, a gold medalist of the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), had been staying at the house of lifting coach Sanjay Maharjan in Mahalaxmi Municipality-8, Lubhu, Lalitpur. She had arrived in Kathmandu from Banke for the qualifiers held on April 29 and 30 at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.
According to Senior Superintendent Yagya Binod Pokhrel, chief of Lalitpur Metropolitan Police Range, the police were informed about the incident by Maharjan at around six in the morning.
“The preliminary investigation shows that it could be a case of suicide as the door was locked from inside and there was no other way to the room,” said Pokhrel. “Also, there are no signs of injuries in the body.”
However, the body has been sent to Patan Hospital for autopsy, Pokhrel informed.
“We have discovered two mobile phones which have been sent to a digital forensic lab to retrieve the data,” said Pokhrel. “We are still investigating to know the reason behind it.”
