Nepal on Saturday reported 189 new Covid-19 cases, the highest in a single day. 

The country’s Covid-19 tally now has reached 1,401.

“Samples of 109 individuals from Kapilvastu, 17 from Sarlahi, 14 from Dailekh, 11 from Siraha, nine from Saptari, Seven from Dhanusha, six from Rautahat, five from Dang, four from Mahottari, two each from Parsa and Sankhuwasabha and one each from Jhapa, Lalitpur and Bara tested positive for the virus in various laboratories across the country,” said Dr Bikas Devkota, the spokesperson for the Health Ministry, at a regular press briefing on Saturday.

Saturday’s cases mark more than 100 cases a day for the last four consecutive days.

On Friday, Nepal had reported its sixth Covid-19 death and 170 new cases.

Likewise, 156 new cases were confirmed on Thursday and 114 cases on Wednesday.

According to the Health Ministry, the coronavirus infection has so far been reported in 53 districts.

Kapilvastu has so far reported 269 cases, the highest for a district, followed by Rautahat with 188 cases while Banke has reported 181 cases.

Similarly, 107 cases have been reported in Jhapa and Parsa has recorded 101 cases.

“So far, 66729 polymerase chain reaction tests and 1,07,055 rapid diagnostic tests have been carried out across the country,” said Devkota.

Meanwhile, 219 patients from across the country have recovered, according to Devkota.
