Okhaldhunga
The reconstruction of Shree Kushmanda Basic School at Pakhe in Chisankhugadi Rural Municipality-5, Okhaldhunga, has been delayed due to a lack of construction materials, according to the school’s Principal Indira Bhattarai.
The school that is located in a remote village of Okhaldhunga does not have an access to road facilities, making it difficult to transport building materials for the reconstruction.
The school building was heavily damaged in the 2015 earthquake.
The school had received a fund of Rs 3.57 million for the construction of a quake resilient building, but even after three years of the school building’s collapse, reconstruction process has yet to begin. The students have been compelled to study in makeshift classrooms of flimsy tarpaulins.
“We have been conducting classes in the open during sunny days as students feel cold in the makeshift classrooms,” said Bhattarai.
The onset of winter has especially been a challenge for the students as the makeshift classrooms provide little protection against the harsh weather, she added.
There are 39 children and three teachers in the school.
The 2015 quake had damaged 267 schools in Okhaldhunga. Reconstruction of most of the schools in the remote areas are yet to complete.
