The secretariat meeting of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has decided to form a special provincial committee that will be based in Kathmandu.
With this decision, which was not included in the party statute, the NCP will have eight committees to look after provincial matters.
“Today’s meeting decided to create a special provincial committee based in Kathmandu that will oversee the special district committees that will include intellectuals, students and workers,” said Narayan Kaji Shrestha, party spokesperson.
The NCP secretariat meeting also decided to review the report prepared by the two-member task force of Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and General Secretary Bishnu Poudel to chart out the work divisions for the central members while completing the merger of provincial committees whose four top leaders have already been selected. The review process will start from Saturday.
The task force will present an updated list of the provincial committees on the basis of seniority.
“If the quota of the provincial committees were not fulfilled, senior-most leaders of the zonal committees would be included,” said a secretariat member. Leaders said the secretariat meeting would continue until the completion of unification process.
