Divorce rate rises in Dang
Divorce rate has increased in Dang district, official data shows. Dang District Court has registered 118 applications for divorce in the last two and a half month. Dang District Court Registrar Chudamani Regmi said 61 men and 57 women filed applications for the divorce during the review period. Observers say this follows the promulgation of the new civil code and criminal code in the country. As per the new codes, the men can directly visit the court to file for divorce.
Chief Judge at the Dang High Court Hemanta Rawal said, “This has increased the number of men applicants seeking divorce in the court.”
He cited family feuds, foreign employment, decision taken in haste and wish for freedom were the reasons in most of the applications for divorce.
