Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has sought support from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for relief and reconstruction efforts in Nepal following the recent disaster.

Wagle requested a meeting with AIIB President Zou Jiayi in Doha on Sunday, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Doha.

During the meeting, Zou expressed condolences over the loss of lives and property caused by the recent disaster in Nepal and said the AIIB was ready to support Nepal and its people.

Wagle thanked the AIIB for its continued support to Nepal and requested assistance for relief and reconstruction efforts, the embassy said.

Wagle is leading the Nepali delegation to the AIIB Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors, which is being held in Doha on September 28-29 under the theme “Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation.”

He arrived in Doha on Sunday to attend the annual meeting. Later in the evening, he attended a reception hosted by the AIIB president for heads of delegations.

The Nepali delegation includes Amrit Lamsal, joint secretary and head of the International Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of Finance; Upen Pandey, under secretary at the ministry; and Kumar Rai, chargé d’affaires at the Nepali Embassy in Doha.
