Top court bans vehicles more than 10 tonnes on BP Highway

A single bench of Justice Bam Kumar Shrestha on Thursday issued the interim order following the writ petition filed by transport entrepreneur Kanchha Man Bal. He petitioned the SC on June 26 to lift the ban on plying heavy vehicles.
The apex court has called both the parties on July 10 to discuss whether the interim order should continue or not. On June 4 the SC had issued an interim order staying the government’s decision that allowed 32-seater vehicles and vehicles weighing over 16 tons to ply on BP Highway.
Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla had issued the order directing the government not to implement the decision that allowed heavy vehicles.
Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Management Raghubir Mahaseth on May 27 had decided to allow heavy vehicles on the highway.
