Rinki’s body was found hanging at her in-laws house in Parsagadhi Municipality-4 in Parsa on Sunday. Police, who had earlier treated Rinki’s death as a suicide, are now reassessing the case after her father, Prabhu, claimed that his daughter was being threatened by her husband and the in-laws for refusing to sell a piece of land that he had gifted her as a wedding gift.
Parsa police also felt the pressure to re-examine the case after Rinki’s relatives and friends staged a demonstration outside the District Police Office in Birgunj on Monday, demanding a fair investigation. They claimed that Rinki was murdered over dowry dispute.
DSP Man Bahadur Rai on Tuesday said that they had detained Rinki’s father-in-law, Prem Prasad, for questioning.
He added that the police were also searching for Rinki’s husband, Bhupendra.The cause of Rinki’s death had not yet been ascertained as of late Tuesday afternoon. Her body was sent to the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital for post-mortem on Monday and the report is awaited, DSP Rai said.
