The Election Commission (EC) announced on Sunday that Pun was re-elected for the second term as no other person challenged his candidacy on Saturday. Pun was first elected the Vice President on October 31, 2015.
The EC declared him the winner after completing the due process. EC Spokesperson Navaraj Dhakal said no complaint was filed against his candidacy. The EC also gave him the certificate of election.
The ruling CPN-UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) had fielded Pun as the common candidate of the left alliance after President Bidya Devi Bhandari was re-elected on March 13.
The main opposition Nepali Congress, which had fielded Kumari Laxmi Rai against Bhandari, did not challenge Pun’s nomination.
