Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has called on all political parties, candidates, voters, and media persons to respect the election silent period.

“The election silent period is the time given for voters to exercise their conscience and to think before casting their ballot,” he said at an interaction in the Capital on Friday.

“Voters must be allowed some time so that they could pick their candidates freely,” he added while urging all sides to respect and accommodate voters’ right to cast their ballots without outside influence. CEC Yadav also praised the government employees election officers for their works to set up polling centres despite geographical remoteness and adverse weather conditions in some parts of the country.

Concerning election security, the chief of the election body said the security agencies were on a high alert to prevent untoward events.

The first phase of elections for federal parliament and provincial assemblies are taking place in 32 districts on Sunday.

The Election Commission has completed all preparations for the first-of-its-kind elections.

Voters urged to use conscience

RASUWA: Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has requested voters in Rasuwa to cast their votes thoughtfully. Yadav, who was here on Friday to monitor poll preparations, advised voters to use their conscience and not to be influenced by others.
