Following a huge criticism, Home Minister Janardan Sharma called for DSP Sharma’s suspension, pending investigation. Home Minister Sharma tweeted that he has directed suspension against DSP Sharma after questions were raised against him. DSP Sharma was accused of downright negligence while carrying out investigation into a girl’s murder after rape in Ramechhap. A 14-year-old girl of Sirise, Sabik Sainpu VDC-1, Ramechhap, was apparently murdered after rape on January 19, 2012. DSP Sharma, who was the chief of the District Police Office, Ramechhap, at the time did not hold the investigation for months.
Shyam Raut, who stands as the main accused, was nabbed five years after the incident from India on June 15. He was made public at the Mahendra Police Club in Kathmandu amidst a press conference.
During the programme, DIG Ganesh KC conceded that police had made a great mistake and said stern action should be taken against those involved in the investigation.
