Kamal Thapa outlines three reasons behind RPP’s loss in local polls
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Kamal Thapa has outlined three main reasons behind his party’s humiliating loss in the first and second phases of local level elections conducted on May 14 and June 28.Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Kamal Thapa has outlined three main reasons behind his party’s humiliating loss in the first and second phases of local level elections conducted on May 14 and June 28.
The fourth largest party in the Legislature-Parliament with 37 members, the RPP emerged victorious in only five places out of 616 local level units.
During the party's central committee meeting held to review its performance in the elections, Thapa presented a six-page document outlining the reason for the party’s poor show in the elections.
In his document, Thapa has concluded that weak coordination among the party leaders, use of money by other parties like Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Centre) to influence the voters and spreading rumours about the party leaving the agenda of Hindu religion and monarchy were the three reasons behind the party’s poor performance in the first and second phases of elections.
RPP Chair Thapa claimed that many parties used and misused money in the recently concluded elections.
He said that NC, UML and Maoist Centre used money in such a way to influence the voters that it could encourage corruption in the coming days and said that the future of democracy would be at peril.
Leader Thapa further said that lack of coordination among the leaders at local level was the reason behind the humiliating loss in the elections.
He said that most of the leaders were busy in the Capital and district headquarters which led to negative impact during the elections.
Likewise, Thapa claimed that the failure to clear the air about negative publicity and misleading information about the party spread in an organised manner was another reason behind the party’s poor show.
