The Ministry of Home Affairs has suspended DSP Sanjeeb Sharma Das, whose name was recommended for promotion, from his post on Wednesday.
Following a huge criticism, the Nepal Police headquarters, Naxal, urged the Home Ministry to suspend Sharma.
He was accused of downright negligence while carrying out investigation into a girl’s murder after rape in Ramechhap.
A 14-year-old girl of Sirise, Sabik Sainpu VDC-1, Ramechhap, was apparently murdered after rape on January 19, 2012.
Das, who was the then chief of the District Police Office, Ramechhap, did not start the investigation for months.
Shyam Raut, who stands as the main accused, was nabbed five years after the incident from India on June 15. He was made public at the Mahendra Police Club in Kathmandu amidst a press conference.
During the programme, DIG Ganesh KC said that police had made a great mistake during the investigation and said stern action should be taken against those involved in the investigation.
