Prabha Baral has been elected the mayor of Raptti Municipality, Chitwan. She is the first female to be elected as mayor in the district.

Baral defeated her closest rival candidate Kiran Bhusan Oli, of Nepali Congress (NC), by a margin of 4321 votes for the mayoral race in the first phase of local level polls held on May 14.  She secured 11613 votes while Oli garnered only 7292 votes.

Similarly in the race for deputy mayor post, CPN-UML’s Iman Singh Lama secured 11882 votes against NC candidate Anita Mainali’s 7074 votes.  CPN-UML has won the elections in all the wards of Rapti Municipality except for 9 and 12.

In Kalika municipality of Chitwan, CPN-UML has won the posts of mayor and deputy mayor. CPN-UML’s Khum Narayan Shrestha has been elected as the mayor and Kamala Bhattarai has been elected deputy mayor. Shrestha secured 7492 votes while Bhattarai garnered 7335 votes.
