2 Cong MPs say will vote against amendments
Nepali Congress central member and lawmaker Chandra Bhandari has claimed that the constitution amendment bill tabled in Parliament would not be endorsed.Nepali Congress central member and lawmaker Chandra Bhandari has claimed that the constitution amendment bill tabled in Parliament would not be endorsed.
At an interaction organised by the Press Union Nepal in Butwal on Saturday, Bhandari said the amendment bill, which proposes splitting the Hill districts from Province 5, would not get through Parliament as it was against the “people’s wish”.
The MP said he would defy the party whip even if the NC leadership issued one to vote for the bill. He claimed that lawmakers could defy such a whip as the amendment proposal was not the NC’s official policy or decision. He said he would respect the decision of the party leadership but stand against any issues that are against the people and the country.
Bhandari said the constitution endorsed by 91 percent of Constituent Assembly members should not be amended on any pretext. “We did not listen to anyone while promulgating the constitution. All the people’s representatives need to unite now for the welfare of Nepal and the Nepalis,” he added.
Claiming that NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal did not know the potential danger of another amendment to the constitution promulgated last year, Bhandari said he, together with other leaders, was trying to make the leadership aware of the consequences.
“We will foil the constitution amendment bill so that our neighbouring country will know that Nepalis are conscious of their nationality,” Bhandari said.
Another NC leader and lawmaker from Rolpa, Amar Pun said he protested the amendment bill as it was against the interests of the people of Rolpa and the whole country.
