Luitel and Karki in BBC's list of 100 women of 2014
Two Women of Nepal have been selected for the British Broadcasting Corporation's (BBC) list of 100 Women of 2014.Jaya Luintel, a journalist and Women's rights Advocate and Darshan Karki, opinion-piece editor at Kathmandu Post daily and Nepal Blogger join a list of other 98 inspirational women worldwide working on the challenges facing women today.
Jaya Luintel, 33, has been working in radio medium for 15 years and started her career from Radio Sagarmatha. She has spent nearly half of her life raising women's voices through radio in Nepal.
She is the Founder President and CEO of The Story Kitchen which aims to amplify women's voices and their stories. The Story Kitchen (TSK) seeks to amplify "herstory" by adding women’s voices and perspectives to historical narratives and exploring the role of women as doers, makers, and creators through innovative media.
Internationally trained and experienced Jaya is the Asia Foundation Development Fellow 2014 and has received a number of fellowships and honors for her communications work in the areas of gender, women's rights and the empowerment of marginalized people.
Darshan Karki also co-curates Women Bloggers of South Asia.
The 100 Women list is a pledge from BBC to represent women better in its international news output. This year’s list includes women’s rights activists, scientists, women in the arts, doctors, lawyers, journalists, and women in war. RSS
