Ncell has appointed Michael Foley as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective November 1. Foley succeeds Syed MD Enamul Kabir, who had been serving as acting CEO. Kabir will remain in a key role in the company as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
In a statement, Ncell said Foley brings strong leadership skills and a successful track record across some of the telecommunications industry’s most prominent companies. With over two decades of senior management experience, he is expected to strengthen Ncell’s position in Nepal’s telecom sector.
Before joining Ncell, Foley served as Head of French Africa at Airtel, overseeing operations in seven Francophone African markets. He was previously the CEO of Telenor Pakistan, where he led the company through a challenging business environment, delivering market-leading growth, profitability, and employee engagement.
Foley also held leadership roles as CEO of Grameenphone in Bangladesh and Telenor Bulgaria, where he drove a major business turnaround, expanding the subscriber base to over 70 million and increasing EBITDA by more than 60 percent.
In addition to his corporate leadership roles, Foley has served as Chairman of Tameer Micro-Finance (now Easypaisa, Pakistan) and Telenor Health. He is currently the Chairman of WATU DRC SA, a division of WATU, Africa’s leading asset micro-finance company.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Ncell, Foley said, “I am delighted and humbled to take on this responsibility here in Kathmandu. Ncell is a critical infrastructure provider for the country and holds immense potential to drive digital transformation, enhance economic competitiveness, and attract foreign investments, all while creating new opportunities for the people of Nepal.”
