The government has constructed 355 kilometres of new blacktopped roads across Nepal in the first eight months of the current fiscal year, according to the Economic Survey 2024-25 unveiled on Thursday.
The report notes that, as of the end of the month of mid-March, the total length of blacktopped roads in the country has reached 19,163 kilometres. This figure marks steady progress in national infrastructure development amid ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity.
In addition to the black topped roads, the survey states that 8,204 kilometres of roads across the country are gravelled, while another 8,765 kilometres remain unpaved. This brings the total length of Nepal’s road network to 36,132 kilometres.
The government has prioritised expanding road access to remote regions and upgrading existing infrastructure to all-weather standards, as part of its broader commitment to national development and economic growth.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, along with various departments and provincial agencies, has been implementing road construction and upgrading projects in both urban and rural areas, supported by national and international funding.
