The oath taking ceremony of Kailali-1 lawmaker Resham Chaudhary has been postponed for 3 pm Thursday.
The swearing in was pushed to a later time as the Dillibazaar Jail administration, where Chaudhary is being kept, was not made aware about the ceremony. Earlier, the oath taking ceremony was scheduled for 11:30am at Federal Parliament Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara’s office in Singhadurbar.
Rastriya Janata Party Nepal’s Chaudhary won the House of Representative election from Kailali-1 securing more than double the votes of his closest rival Madan Kumar Shah of then CPN-UML. His party had been pressing the government to administer the oath of office to Chaudhary.
Chaudhary is the main accused in the lynching of eight police personnel and an infant in Tikapur of Kailali district of August 2015. He was on the run after being charge-sheeted for his alleged key role but later surrendered before Kailali District Court on February 26, 2018.
