Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal’s presidium on Tuesday named Rajendra Mahato as the coordinator of its six member presidium.
One of the most influential leaders of the party, Mahato will take charge of the party’s presidium from Wednesday.
The meeting of the presidium took the decision to rotate the coordinator through majority votes of four leaders—Mahato, Sharat Singh Bhandari, Mahendra Yadav and Rajkishor Yadav.
Ever since the six fringe Madhes-based parties merged to form the RJP-N on July last year, Mahantha Thakur has been leading the presidium despite the statutory provision of changing the leadership on rotational basis every two months.
“I will chair the next meeting of the presidium scheduled for Sunday,” said Mahato.
With the decision of the presidium the party’s coordinator would now change in every two months.
The party also decided to annul all appointments made in the party’s 814-strong central committee after submitting the first list of the party’s central committee to the Election Commission.
According to the RJP-N General Secretary Keshav Jha, the leaders were unhappy as the party leadership had appointed more than 50 office bearers and over 100 central members on different dates.
The deadline of issuing the general and active memberships for the national
convention has been extended till mid-December.
The RJP-N has also decided to hold the national convention on stipulated date to develop the party into an alternative democratic force while continuing with the activities to develop and expand the party’s organizational structures.
