The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) on Tuesday formally asked the local governments to create their own apps.
According to the ministry, the federal government will develop the apps for the local governments for free.
So far, Dhulikehl Municipality is the only local government to have its own app developed by the DoIT. The department said it has completed developing the app for Birgunj Metropolitan City, which is yet to launch. “We are also developing the app for Janakpur Sub-Metropolitan City, Banepa, Panauti and Pachkhal municipalities,” said said Sudarsan Guragain, an official at the department. “We plan to develop the app for all 753 local units within the current fiscal year.”
The department officials said the local governments will have to submit basic informations, based on which the app will be developed. The app will have key features that include— details on the local government’s brief statistics, GIS resource map, laws, budget, plans and programmes and information on its staffs.
In addition to this, the app will also feature the services that the local government will provide, such as the time-frame for a particluar service, information on the responsible official and service provider, the service-fee and many more.
“The app will also feature the facility of taking polls and registering complains, which will be useful for addressing people’s problems,” the DoIT said.
