Congress forms panel to amend party charter

The decision comes on the eve of the scheduled party CWC meeting that is expected discuss the date of Mahasamiti meeting, party structure, among other internal issues.
Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has constituted an 11-member statute amendment drafting committee as per Clause 24 (8) of NC Statute (Amended and Revised-2017).
Deuba has inducted six members from his own faction, four from the Ram Chandra Poudel camp and one from the Krishna Prasad Situala faction in the move seen as a bid to spur dynamics inside the party.
Earlier, party’s central committee meeting had decided on April 29 to form the statute amendment drafting committee to review and recommend amendments to the party’s charter.
Headed by party General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka, the drafting panel comprises central committee members Dr Minendra Rijal, Farmullah Mansoor, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay ‘Dina’, Man Bahadur Bishwokarma, Ananda Prasad Dhungana, Nabindra Raj Joshi, Seeta Gurung, Pradeep Poudel and Ramesh Lekhak.
The panel is working on the matter in consultation with party President Deuba. It can also solicit ideas from individuals and organisations on ways to restructure the party in line with the federal set-up. The committee has been asked to submit its report in 15 days.
