The Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (Nefej) has expressed serious concern over some provisions of Civil and Criminal Codes that came into force on August 17.
Issuing a press statement, Nefej has said the provisions, which have narrowed the essence of national and international legislations, would not be acceptable.
Urging the bodies concerned to correct the moves that aim to curtail the press freedom, the forum has said the constitution fully guarantees freedom of speech and expression which needs to be reflected in the law-making process.
“National laws should not contradict the provisions of Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political rights,” Nefej saidthis concern.
