Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that his party is compelled to launch a protest due to ‘undemocratic nature’ of the government.
“They [Nepal Communist Party leaders] have been indoctrinated with communist policy and ideology. They are in the government. They cannot be democratic by nature. They will certainly try to impose communist rule in the country. We [the NC] should stop them from doing so,” Deuba said, while addressing the national conference of the NC-affiliated Nepal Democratic Lawyers Association at Gaidakot in Nawalpur district on Saturday.
The NC chief also accused the government of trying to encroach land belonging to the BP Koirala Cancer Hospital in Bharatpur as it was established in memory of the NC leader. The NC district committee in Chitwan has been protesting the Bharatpur Metropolis’ plan of building a city hall on the land of the cancer hospital. While Deuba welcomed Thursday’s nine-point agreement between the government and social activist Dr Govinda KC, he remained critical of the proposed move to remove the Tribhuvan University vice chancellor. “The government’s conspiracy of removing the VC will force us to launch a protest,” the former prime minister warned.
Speaking on the occasion, senior NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel expressed his doubts over the delay in taking a decision on chief justice even after the parliamentary hearing. He also accused the ruling party of violating the constitutional provision that stipulates that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker should be from different political parties.
