Receiving a seven-point memorandum from RJP-N coordinator Mahantha Thakur on Thursday, PM suggested the RJP-N leaders to develop a plan for the overall development of Tarai, conservation of Chure range, developing embankments and industries.
According to PM Secretariat, PM Oli told the RJP-N leaders that there was an urgent need to improve literacy rate and end various social ills in the Tarai. “Let’s develop a political plan to end all these issues and implement them,” PM Oli said.
He also informed the leaders about the government’s plan to begin integrated settlement as the ‘Janata Awas’ programme in the Tarai, noting that a similar programme by the previous government had become ineffective.
The PM also told the RJP-N leaders that some of their previous demands had become insignificant and they ought to review them. He, however, did not specify which demands.
On making amendments to the constitution to address the concerns of the Madhesi community, PM Oli said, “We should certainly debate the shortcomings in the constitution and make changes as per the need, but our main focus should never deviate from the goal of developing the country.”
The seven-point demands of the RJP-N include providing certificate to murder-accused lawmaker-elect Resham Chaudhary, releasing the people arrested during political protests and rallies in the Tarai, adequately compensating to flood victims and conserving the Chure range to stop the perennial problem of flooding in the Tarai. The RJP-N has also demanded the government to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC to make health care and medical study
accessible in all parts of the country.
