Gurans Rural Municipality in Dailekh district is going to distribute identity cards to Rautes, the nomadic ethnic people, from Saturday.
The ID cards will have Gurans Rural Municipality as the permanent address of the Raute people. Pursuant to the decision of a Cabinet meeting in June 14, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration had instructed the rural municipal office to distribute ID cards to the Raute community.
Chairman of the rural municipality Khemraj Oli said the ID cards were being printed and the municipal office planned to start the distribution process from Saturday.
Raute chieftain Surya Narayan Shahi said they had to visit various places to receive government allowance in the past.
“We hope our trouble will be over with the ID cards. We have been living in Gurans area because the weather here suits us. We are happy to live here and become part of this place,” he said.
Currently, Rautes are living at Garche Khola area in Gurans Rural Municipality-8.
Chief District Officer Bishworaj Neupane said that Rautes will not be compelled to travel to other areas to receive allowance from now on.
Raute leader Surya Narayan Shahi said they were pleased to join the larger community after years of living in isolation.
“We are getting into modern ways of life. We trust modern medicines and visit hospitals these days,” he said.
