‘UML-Maoist unity in a few days’CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that party unity between the UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) would take place within a few days.
CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has said that party unity between the UML and the CPN (Maoist Centre) would take place within a few days.
Addressing a programme organised by the Left Alliance to welcome the newly elected members of Federal Parliament and Provincial Assemblies on Wednesday, Oli said some elements were trying to spoil the unity, “but I dare say from here that party unity between us is happening and happening within a couple of days.
He also dismissed suggestions that it was surrender on the part of the Maoist Centre, saying, “Socialism-oriented new party would be formed with the unification of the UML and Maoist Centre.”
The UML chief said a new government under the Left Alliance would bring a new bill related to formation of the Upper House.
Reiterating that the ordinance on formation of the National Assembly could not be issued, Oli said the incumbent government has put a provision of single transferable vote system, bypassing parliamentary committee’s decision to form the National Assembly through a majority vote. “The ordinance could not be a means for any particular political party for power misuse. A new government would be formed after the fresh mandate and it would submit the ordinance,” he said.
Expressing displeasure at a statement made by the government spokesperson on Tuesday, the UML chairman urged everyone concerned not to drag the President into controversy.
Speaking on the occasion, UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the Nepali Congress would suffer further if it delays handing over power to the new government.
An integrated community movement would be formed as the unification of the
UML and Maoist Centre have already been approved by the people and party cadres, Nepali said.
Maoist Centre leader Narayankaji Shrestha said that the nation would be on the way to prosperity as the communists have a majority in Parliament.
During the event, winners of the left alliance from Kathmandu district in the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies were honoured.
