Following Friday’s authentication of Health Profession Education Ordinance by President Bidya Devi Bhandari, experts have called for an immediate forming of the Health Profession Education Commission (HPEC).
The HPEC is envisioned by the HPE Act as the overarching framework to regulate medical education in the country.
The HPEC will have the authority to decide on affiliating medical colleges, while running the central level medical examination.
“The commission should be formed soon,” said Dr Bhagwan Koirala, former chairperson of the HPEC that had drafted the HPE Act. The commission had become defunct after drafting the Act that took over a year for implementation. (pr)
