The Election Commission (EC) has made public the closed lists of candidates submitted by various political parties to EC under the proportional representation (PR) category of second phase of parliamentary and provincial elections on Friday.

Election Officer under the PR electoral system and EC Secretary Begendra Raj Sharma Paudel made public the lists amid a press conference organised at the EC office today.

While making public the closed lists of candidates, Paudel informed that a total of 6,094 candidates have been included in the list.

According to EC spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal, names of 783 indigenous male and 931 female and one another under the other category, 876 Khas Arya male and 997 female, 158 Tharu male and 262 female, 342 Dalit male and 497 female, 455 Madhesi male and 563 female, 81 Muslim male and 157 female candidates are in the lists.

Similarly, names of differently-abled 158 male and 115 female including one another under the other category and 107 marginalised areas male and 122 female candidates are in the lists.

Among the 88 parties registered at the EC for parliamentary and provincial elections, 49 parties had submitted lists of candidates for parliamentary election while 53 parties had submitted list of candidates for provincial election.

According to legal provision, if anyone doubts the capability of the candidates whose names are in the list, they can file complaint at the EC within seven days.

The parliamentary and provincial elections have been slated for November 26 and December 7.
