During an interaction with development partners assisting in Nepal’s rebuilding efforts, the first since the new Chief Executive Officer Yubaraj Bhusal assumed office, the reconstruction authority said that the change in leadership would not affect the ongoing works to resettle and rehabilitate the quake survivors.
Nearly 9,000 people were killed and hundreds of thousands of houses were destroyed in the April 25, 2015 earthquake and its subsequent aftershocks.
“We plan to shift some 60 percent of quake survivors to their own concrete houses before the arrival of monsoon for which support from the development partners is essential,” said Bhusal, who succeeded Govinda Raj Pokhrel as the NRA chief on October 24. He assured the development partners that the change in NRA leadership would not affect its schedule, as he hoping for constructive support and cooperation.
During the meeting, representatives from the United Nations, the European Union, Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), UK’s Development for International Development (DfID), the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank as well as those from China and India pledged cooperation to the NRA in its rebuilding efforts.
