Madan Puraskar winning writer Jagdish Shamsher Rana died in Chandigarh, India, on Monday. He was 88. 

According to family sources, Rana died of heart failure. He had been undergoing treatment in Chandigarh for one year. He had moved to Shimla of India after the political changes of 1960. 

Despite living far from homeland, he was always connected with the Nepali art and literature.

Born in 1929 in Kathmandu, Rana was the grandson of Babar Shamsher Rana and son of Mrigendra Shamsher Rana.

He was awarded the Madan Puraskar for his literary work “Narsingh Awatar” on October 2, 1981. His other famous works include “Seto Khyak”, “Uttar Aadhunikta ra Bahulya Bisfot,” and “Dash Dristikon”. Rana is survived by a son and three daughters.
