Minister for Health and Population Giriraj Mani Pokharel tabled the bill which will be discussed in a House committee before it is forwarded for endorsement.
“The academy will be important in providing medical education to students from the western region. This will be a landmark step towards expanding medical access in the region,” said Minister Pokharel while presenting the bill. The bill envisions using Rapti Sub-Zonal Hospital as the practicing place for the Academy.
The proposed health academy in Dang will be the fifth one owned by the government after Institute of Medicine, Patan Academy of Health Sciences, Karnali Academy and BP Koirala Academy.
Like in other four academies for medical education, the prime minister will hold the chancellor’s post, while education minister will be the pro-chancellor.
