A single bench of Judge Tej Bahadur KC issued an interim order, telling the election authority to follow the due legal process of registering the party and assigning it the election symbol.
Although leaders associated with the RPP (P) applied for party registration and submitted the signatures of central committee members on August 6, the election body on August 11 asked the leaders to come over on Sunday and verify their signatures.
Rana filed a writ petition at the apex court on Friday against the EC’s move to “complicate” the party registration process.
According to the ruling, the signatures of RPP central members and lawmakers were collected in the presence of a joint-secretary from the EC on August 6 and that they were also verified the very moment while the RPP had failed to deny the signatures.
“The EC should have adopted a single definitive process once the application, along with signatures, was registered,” the SC order states.
