Saarc Home Ministerial meet ends in Colombo
A team led by Home Minister Janardan Sharma arrived here in Kathmandu on Friday after attending a meeting of Home Ministers, immigration officials, and home secretaries from Saarc countries held in Sri Lanka. The meeting held discussions on a wide range of issues related to Saarc countries including the development and implementation of Saarc Visa Exemption Stickers Scheme in order to ease visa processing for citizens of member nations while travelling within Saarc countries.
According to a press statement issued by Home Ministry Spokesperson Deepak Kafle, a conference of Saarc police organisations will be held in Nepal in September to improve coordination and cooperation between police organisations of Saarc member countries. The meeting also dwelt on taking necessary measures for making Saarc Offence Monitoring Desk and Drugs Offence Monitoring Desk effective.
All the member nations condemned terrorism, cross border crimes, drugs smuggling, among other criminal activities. Serious commitments were made to increase bilateral and regional cooperation to end such serious crimes againist humanity.
Likewise, issues of growing cyber crimes in the context of rapidly developing information technology and ways to curb them, immigration, crime control, security arrangement, among other regional issues, were discussed at the meeting.
