Ten doctors’ associations have demanded the government to immediately scrap affiliation to Universal Medical College and warned that they would intensify the protest if their demand was not addressed.

The associations have asked the government to take ahead the process to dismiss the affiliation as per the directive issued by the Cabinet on July 6.

Flouting the directives of Tribhuvan University to enrol students under the post graduate programme on merit basis, the medical colleges are found to have been admitting the students though various illegal channels.

The Supreme Court had also ordered the medical colleges to admit the students on merit basis.

Issuing a statement on Friday, the doctors’ associations said that the Universal College of Medical College have been charging exorbitant sums from the students who are in the merit list for MD/MS courses.

The Doctors Society of Nepal, Government Doctors’ Association, National Doctors’ Association, Resident Association of Nepal, National Resident Association, Junior Resident Welfare Society, Nepal Medical Students Society, Doctors for Change, Save Medical Fraternity and Society for Dr KC have jointly issued the statement on Friday.
