14 Baram candidates win the race of local polls

With the inclusion of the members of highly marginalized group in the local governance, the indigenous group with population of only 8,140 as per 2011 census, is expecting that their culture and language would be promoted.
According to Prem Baram, founder chairperson of Nepal Baram Sangh (NBS), 41 candidates from different parties had contested the local level polls including one for Deputy Chief of a rural municipality.
Baram's language known as 'Balkura' has been considered endangered.
The NBS has been demanding a separate Baram Autonomous Region including 15 different Village Development Committees where their population are scattered. However, these VDCs were incorporated in different rural municipalities including Arughat, Sulikot and Bhimsen rural municipalities.
This language is on the verge of extinction. Even though their population is spread over 13 different districts, the language of Baram, Balkura is spoken only in Takukot and Pandrung of Gorkha district.
Three ward chairpersons were elected two from Nepali Congress and one from CPN UML while five ward members were elected from CPN Maoist Centre. Among those 14 elected Baramu include three female candidates.
