Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Education Minister Gopal Man Shrestha, in their capacities as the chancellor and the co-chancellor of Tribhuvan University, inaugurated the central office gate of the university campus in Kirtipur on Sunday.
The inauguration was planned coinciding with the 58th anniversary of the TU Assembly.
Addressing the function, Prime Minister Deuba emphasised on the need for a practical and job-oriented education for all.
“Access to quality higher education should be offered to all groups, and for that we have to decentralise the university,” he said.
Stating that political stability is a crucial factor in determining a nation’s overall growth including the education sector, the prime minister said that the major priority of his government was to ensure political stability and implement the new constitution by conducting the third phase of the local level elections, the provincial elections and the parliamentary elections by January 2018.
“The enthusiastic participation shown by the people in the local level elections has paved way for holding the other remaining elections and for a successful implementation of the constitution,” said Prime Minister Deuba.
TU Vice-chancellor Thirtha Raj Khaniya talked about short and long-term plans of the university that have been or are in the process of being implemented.
“The TU now offers e-learning, and open and distance learning programmes. Technology-friendly Education curriculum has also been adopted while
construction of infrastructure according to the TU master plan is also taking place,” he said.
On the occasion the TU Assembly also passed the 55th grace list. The grace list contains the names of 68,292 students who completed examinations, met requirements and received transcripts dated June 16 2016 to May 31 2017, said TU Registrar Dilliram Uperty.
