The Nepal Army on Wednesday bestowed “Bravery Medal” on six US Marines who were killed in a helicopter crash during a rescue mission in Sindhupalchok in the wake of the May 12 earthquake in 2015.
Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri presented the medals to military attaché at the US Embassy in Kathmandu, Lt Col Gregory D Pipes at a ceremony held in Kathmandu, the NA said.
The US Marines Capt Dustin R. Lukasiewicz, Capt Christopher L Norgren, Sgt Ward M Johnson IV, Sgt Eric M Seaman, Cpl Sara A Medina and Lance Cpl Jacob A Hug had died in the tragedy along with two NA soldiers Tapendra Rawal and Basanta Titara and five civilians.
